Most plastic you buy now is virgin. Before it was a tube or bottle it was oil and stuff.Post-consumer recycledplastic had a former life as something plastic.Add a bit of re-use to post-consumer plastic, then recycle it, andyou might just have the best possible container from an environmental standpoint.

 

What is "post-consumer recycled"?

Once a material or finished product has served its intended use and has beendiverted or recovered from waste destined for disposal, it is then considered"post-consumer."Having completed its life as a consumer item, it can then berecycled as such.This differs from "pre-consumer" or "post-industrial" waste,which is generated by industrial or manufacturing waste.

Post-consumer recycled starts with our waste

Just about all industrial processes generate waste; the paper and printing indus-tries, for example, recycle ends of paper rolls, misprints, scraps from trimming,etc.This pre-consumer waste is produced in large quantities in a relatively smallnumber of locations; this is the polar opposite of post-consumer waste,whichgenerally comes from our homes.As such,post-consumer waste is more difficult toseparate and collect, but very important as it keeps tons of material from going tothe landfill. By including the highest amount of recycled content that we can in each item, ourtubes and bottles offer some great environmental benefits. For examples, becausethere are few virgin raw material used in each tube and bottle, we save resourcesfor other uses and devert material that was headed to the landfill by repurposingit into a new product. PET (or Polyethylene terephthalate) plastic is one of the most common plastics inthe world.PET is produced from fossil fuels - typically natural gas and petroleum,but it is one of the earliest plastics to recycle.Because of this, we found a way touse the post-consumer recycled PET plastic in our containers. That way therecycled resin, rPET, becomes more accepted and valuable as people see how easyit is to include in regular items.Best of all, using this material means that we needuse fewer virgin petroleum resources to make our products at the end of the day.Our rPET bottle can be made of l00% rPET.
